What have you found to be the best method for selling your Art?

Overtime I found out that there are 5 ways that I found helpful when selling Art. That is doing research, Selling Online, Vending, Promoting and Street Art.

What does doing research look like in 2022?

When your doing research that can look like many things. There is no wrong way of researching. One way I found helpful is utilizing social platforms in a healthy way. Looking up other Artists that have similar Artistry or the same goals, almost stalking in a way. But your not stalking the Artist your stalking a way for you to find yourself in the same positions that they are in. Finding new shows, events, galleries, and charities. Going to event websites figuring out when the next show is and maybe attending or applying yourself, reaching out and introducing yourself, a lot of time its a who you know business. You want to know the key people at these events. (Make sure you always have a business card handy when your meeting these people)

What does Selling Online look like for you?

Selling online can be tricky and stressful. What I do is stick to one platform at a time. Especially since all of my work is one of a kind, I've had horror stories where the same Art piece sold on two different websites at the same time. A big no no. I found it also easier to promote one domain at a time vs creating several promotions for several different sites. Have one set platform where all of your work is nicely displayed with up to date prices and images. The drive all your promo to that domain.

What does promoting look like in 2022?

Now there are good and bad ways of promoting yourself. Yes I said it. You want to be straight forward with your audience. One good way would be to post flyers in your neighborhood with your website attached or handing out business cards at local events. A bad way of promoting is where you will confuse your audience. For instance if your starting your Art business on social media do NOT post all your content on your personal page. Create a new social page and draw your Artsy audience there. Try to keep the pages separate, you don't want to run into a high end Art Gallery and feed them a page where your partying and throwing back shots of whiskey.

Why Vending?

I have ran into a lot of Artists that don't like vending, i'm sure they have reasons why but I have found vending helpful with growing my business. Vending local events helps come in contact with other Artists, Art collectors, Art buyers, getting closer to your community and a good way to introduce your self to the scene. This also helps growing your social platforms, make sure you collect cards from every Artist or any important person you come in contact with and add them. From there you can start a some research.

How does Street Art help grow your business?

When I think of Street Art I literally think of selling my Art on the street. This includes mapping out hot spots in your city like parks, lakes, or even busy strips where there is alot of foot traffic. You will meet all kinds of people, including locals and tourists.  Now there are loopholes to this but we will save that for another time, if you have a license for your business then there's no need to worry. Try taking some of your best work and hit the raw streets of your city. You wont be disappointed.
